At the Children’s Centre we are passionate about Play.
Play is an essential part of every child's life and is vital to their development. Through play, children explore the world around them and develop and practice skills.
We pride ourselves on being first for real play by offering CACHE Playwork qualifications to our staff team and advocating Playwork to other professionals working with children and young people on the Isle of Man.
Playwork Development
Out2Play, the After School Club and Holiday Club all have a true Playwork ethos to working with children and young people, by giving them the support and freedom they need to gain positive experiences through play, whether this be den building or splashing around playing water games.
'Do Some Good' App
If you’ve ever thought you’d like to do something that makes a difference, but don’t feel like you have enough time to spare, then Do Some Good is the mobile app for you (available on i-Phone, Blackberry, Nokia and andriod devices). You can lend a hand whenever you want, and in just five minutes – by downloading the free app and then logging the areas around the Island that are fun places to play in. You can then share your playful experiences with lots of children and families.
National Playday
An annual celebration of children’s right to play. This year’s theme was ‘Our Place’ and The Children’s Centre held two Playdays, with local children, young people, parents and carers joining in the fun!
Adventure Play
Even in the relatively safe Isle of Man, children are often unable or not allowed to go out and engage freely in play activities that many often take for granted. Adventure Play aims to address this need by offering the opportunity to access a rich play environment. Primary school children can take part in an Adventure Day, visiting a glen or plantation or coastal venue for lots of fun and fresh air! The adventure last a whole day or sometimes overnight too, with camps at our Ti-Pi. We encourage play by making the most of everything the environment has to offer such as skimming stones, climbing tress and collecting natural materials.
'PlayBin'
New for 2011, our PlayBin project encourages children to play in new and innovative ways within the school playground environment. Our playworkers help to resource primary schools, and work alongside teachers and support staff, to develop loose parts (or junk!) play during playtimes.
