The Children’s Centre works within communities across the Isle of Man to promote the safeguarding and well being of children, young people and families, and to support and encourage social cohesion.
Through our Community Development Programmes in Jurby, Peel and Ballasalla we recognise the differing needs of each community and celebrate what makes them unique.
Residents know best and we aim to employ local residents as part-time Community Development Workers, to inspire others within the community to take advantage of opportunities available to them. We do this by following the three key principles of community development:
- Networking
We believe that strong partnerships are key to thriving and safe communities and we are proud to be part of the Jurby, Ballasalla and Western Partnerships’, working with other local private, public and voluntary organisations - Advocacy
We offer advice and supporting, helping to raise the profile of any community issues and seeking to find positive solutions - Provision
We aim to help communities establish new projects in response to identified needs
We also deliver Leadership in the Community courses, to enable volunteers to develop their community leadership skills. We hope that this will make the Isle of Man a great environment in which to be born, raised and live - now and in the future.
