What's on?

Race the Sun supported by LottoGo.com

  • When May 22nd 2021
  • Where Peel / Raad Ny Foillan Coastal Footpath
  • Price £330 per team of 10

After a challenging 2020 we are delighted that our much loved event 'Race the Sun', this year again sponsored by LottoGo.com, is to return. All money raised goes directly to supporting vulnerable children and young people in the Isle of Man through our many projects, thanks to our sponsor LottoGo.com.

Despite not going ahead last year this will be the 12th year it has gone ahead, and over this time has raised in excess of £120,000. So why not join us and LottoGo.com in 2021, challenge yourself and help us take this amount to over £130,000?

The task is simple - starting in Peel, at sunrise (05:01), your team must complete a lap of the dramatic 100 mile island coastal footpath before the sun sets (21:17). The course follows the 'Raad ny Foillan' our stunning coastal footpath circumventing our island with beautiful scenery, a range of terrains significant height gain.

The event is open to teams of up to 10 people (teams can consist of any number of runners up to maximum of 10), who each run one of the 10 sections, which vary in length, landscape and difficulty; ranging from 10.5km (6.5m) to 18.2km (12m) in distance.

The runners will take in a variety of terrains ranging from impressive sandy beaches; picturesque glens; estuaries and exposed cliff tops. The race requires strength, stamina and agility, as well as sheer determination.

Race the Sun is a relay race like no other, and is definitely not for the faint hearted.

Please note this is a self-supported event and participants will need to transport their own team members, and make sure that team mates arrive at transition points on time.

The exact route that each team member must follow, can be found HERE

Please note that this year the event will be run in an ANTI CLOCKWISE direction.

Plesae also note slight changes to the following routes:

Leg 1 - Transition will be at the top of The Sloc and NOT Eary Cushlin as in previous years

Leg 4 - Miss out the Langness Loop, heading straight along the promenade towards Derby Haven, past King Williams College, take a left at the end and head out to Cafe 2 Six

Leg 7 - After coming out of Laxey, there is a slight change that will take you further along the Ballargh Road, crossing the Ramsey Road (A2) and directly onto the Dhoon Loop Road.

Leg 8 - turning off Maughold Road, turn right and follow Coastal Road (A2), turn down Stanley Mount and onto Ramsey Promenade

More information regarding each leg including distance, terrain and diffculty can be found HERE

UPDATED APRIL 2021 PLEASE NOTE - We have been in touch with DEFA who tell us there are several works due on the RNF this year, however none of which should require diversions off the route at the time of the Race the Sun event.

Glen Maye, DOI advise the ground is unstable but the PROW is open, with the route being walked and the weather hopefully improving the ground will become more stable.

Santon Gorge, there will be work on this section to replace some of the boardwalks, place new ones and put matting down which we will fill with stones to assist with drainage - but the PROW remains open.

Port-E-Vullan, there was a small sink hole which had been filled in but the team will re attend and carry out further remedial work as required. The work on the bridge can now be completed.

Maughold, had been closed due to landslifde - DOI advise this PROW is now open for use

This year, perhaps more than ever The Children's Centre really need to raise as much as it can from its established and now iconic events calendar – to maximise the amount raised to support the local services we provide to children and families in times of need and crisis, we are asking for teams to raise monies through individual or team sponsorship.
