Local charity The Children's Centre held a very successful event on Saturday 22nd May, with a record breaking 39 teams taking part in the Lottogo.com supported Race the Sun event. This was the 12th year the challenge had been organised by the charity, after having been cancelled last year due to COVID.
The event also saw a record breaking amount raised, with just shy of £23,000 having been raised which will enable the charity to continue to give more children, young people and families help when there is no other help available.
The unique and gruelling relay running race on the Isle of Man saw the team's starting at sunrise, and finishing before sunset, covering the 100 miles of 'Raad ny Foillan' the Island's coastal footpath, which circumnavigates the whole Island.
Organiser Jane Howland said: "We were beyond delighted with the event this year. I would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers, marshals and competitors. A special thank you to the teams for the phenomenal amount raised and a well done to the winning team – Boston MFO, and to Amber Gaming for finishing closest to sunset.
John Spellman, Director of Annexio, said, "We were delighted to once again support such a fabulous event. Race the Sun pushes teams beyond their comfort zone in aid of vulnerable children who face arduous challenges on a day to day basis. It's a cause that's always been close to our heart and we couldn't be prouder to support this record breaking year raising much needed funds for The Children's Centre."
