Children and Young People

We turn difficult life experiences into brighter futures for children, young people and their families, here on the Isle of Man.

These challenging experiences can be linked to situations that include bullying, developmental disability, poverty, domestic abuse, substance misuse, criminality, breakdown in family relationships for instance through divorce, separation or bereavement.

Our services directly address behavioural, learning or emotional wellbeing needs, which are often the result of these experiences. Our brilliant professional team use their extensive experience and training to build emotional safety and trust. From this place, a young person can face something they want to avoid, or fear and then begin to understand what’s happening.

We bridge the gap in statutory provision before a young person or their family reach the point of crisis. And we commit to long-term engagement with each child, young person or family. We don’t give up on them because we know that the impact of sticking with them, seeing them through a difficult time, brings the greatest benefits.

Using one to one and small group support, linked to activities, we promote resilience, self-confidence, wellbeing, and a person’s respect for themselves and for others. Our team has many years of experience and are highly skilled professionals. They also have specialist skills to work with the wider family where appropriate. We support each and every child and young person we work with to re-frame difficult experiences, and to grow and develop for a brighter future.

What we offer

  • A tailored support programme for any child or young person (birth -18 years old) and / or the wider family depending on the issues they are facing.

  • Sessions are available at our centre and farm, Wallberry Farm, Braddan, just outside of Douglas or in the community depending on the need and the circumstances.

“My son has recently attended his prom and finished sitting his GCSE’s. To most this might seem like a completely normal thing to have done. To those who have supported him at The Children’s Centre over the past four years you will know how huge this is. This would simply not have been possible without the work you have done to help him with his anxiety and build his confidence. Thank you so much for what you have achieved.'”
